About Us

We are a winter drumline and winter color guard from Powell, Ohio. This group is made up of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from Liberty and Hyatts Middle School. Most of these students are involved in the music program at their respective schools but this is not a requirement. We march a color guard using dance, flag, rifle, and sabers. The marching percussion is made of snare drums, 4 bass drums, and cymbals. We do not march tenors. The front ensemble utilizes various instruments including marimba, vibraphone, synthesizer, xylophone, concert bass, gong, bells, and various auxiliary instruments.

2011-2012

Founded in the fall of 2011 we began with 15 inaugural members. Our first year we compete in only two competitions in the OIPA circuit and our season started in November and ended in mid-February.  The show was entitled Geometrics. It was based on the various shapes from each movement triangles, circles and squares.

2012-2013

In our second year we increased to 23 members (two were unable to participate in our championships). This was our first full year competing in a full circuit with OIPA. We finished in 6th place of 7 groups. Our show was entitled DrumCo Inc. Members were workers in a drum and guard factory making the various percussion and guard equipment while the foreman oversees the work. He then leaves on break, while he is gone the other members of the factory party. Showing their festive side hidden by their factory uniform. However, by the time the boss returns to the factory all is back to normal with the foreman none the wiser.

2013-2014

Year number three we increase to 26 members. Our show was entitled Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Recess. This show discussed the many valuable lessons we learn out at recess. These included how to play, our first crush, dealing with bullies, and how to make friends. We included a 60 foot tug of war and even hopscotch with our section feature.

2014-2015

Year four was another bug step for us. We grew to 37 members and had our largest sections to date. The show was entitled Spies. Pitting the color guard and the battery against each other in a race to steal a top secret case. Trickery and deception lead this show and the while the battery got the jump, the guard walked away with the prize.

2015-2016

Year five was a so much fun. We took a step away from stories and into a concept with our show Phobias. This show allowed them to explore fears in an unusual way. They talked about the basic fears like spiders and heights but also more rare ones like mirrors and crowds. It was a fun show allowing student to show their performing and acting abilities.

2016-2017

In our sixth year we took on martial arts. A show paying homage to the legendary Bruce Lee entitled Path of the Dragon.  It is show included tai chi, kung fu, taekwondo, and other Asian styles of movement. The third movement even had a sparring scene. This year we received a silver medal at championships.

2017-2018

Year number seven was a year about space. We divided the group into three sections. Our battery members became astronauts on a mission to a new planet. Under the guidance of our mission control, played by the front, the explored a new world and had an alien encounter. Our guard provided the aliens and their share of knowledge helped get the brave crew back home. This show marked our second consecutive year as a silver medalist at championships.

2018-2019

We looked at the pros and cons of the technological world we live in. This show touched on GPS, the internet, personal computers, and even just trying to log-in. These topics had us questioning the benefits of technology and even  if we are human.

2019-2020

Our ninth year was an unique one. Student examined the sides of the brain and benefits of each side. While we might be more left or right brained we need both to be a successful person. The guard and battery embodied these haves and their combined work created an enjoyable show. Unfortunately, this season was shortened due to the pandemic.

2020-2021

No Season because of COVID-19

2021-2022

After a year off War Eagle made its triumphant return with Into The Tomb. This show featured explores entering a long forgotten egyptian tomb in search of an ancient artifact but found much more than they bargained for. Their removal of the item awoke the tombs inhabitants who desire its return.

2022-2023

The 11th year of War Eagle was one for the history books. With the show Through The Mirror we follow an ill-fated sleep over that discovers creatures coming through the mirror in the room. Through a bit of trickery and hypnosis they creatures lock the morir with the friends on the other side while they creatures remain. This group was an OIPA state champion in Regional A Class.
