What is winter ensemble?

Winter Ensemble is an extra-curricular activity for those students interested in indoor Color Guard and indoor Percussion (which includes drums, other percussion, and electronic instruments). There are two rehearsal a week and 4 competitions on the weekend. The Winter Guard and Winter Percussion group compete at local and state events from January through March 29th. There is a participation fee and placement audition.

Who can be involved in the winter ensemble?

Any  6th, 7th, and 8th grade student can be involved in the our group. NO MUSICAL EXPIERENCE REQUIRE!

When and where do we practice?

Practices will be twice a week. Thursday 6:00-8:30PM and Sunday from 1-4:30pm, both held in the Olentangy Liberty High School band room. A calendar will be out soon.

Do we compete?

Yes, we will go to four competitions. The format is 3 competitions in our circuit and a circuit championship. We will compete against other middle and high school groups within the state of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky.

Will there be auditions?

Yes and no. There will be clinics for you to get an idea of what section you might be interested in, and we will also be getting a feel of each student’s abilities. The first practice will be where students will be informed of their part. We do not make cuts.

How can my parents and I learn more?

There will be two clinics for any students interested. Thursday November 6th 6-8:00pm with a parent meeting after AND/OR Sunday November 9th 1-3:00PM with a parent meeting after. We ask that you please attend one of these clinics if possible. If you cannot please attend the first rehearsal Thursday November 13th 6-8:30PM at LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL. This will run similar to a clinic with more direction toward placements. There will be a parent meeting after for any parents unable to attend any of the clinics. If you cannot attend either clinic or parent meeting you can e-mail me, Dave Wolfe, at WarEagleWinterline@gmail.com. You do not have to come to a clinic but you do need to attend the first practice. Parents missing the parent meetings after the clinics may stay and we will have one after our first rehearsal.

When do I have to decide

We ask that all members interested in the winterline come to our first practice at the Liberty High School band room. Students will stay after school and meet in the music hall of their school to be driven to the high school for practice. There will be a parent meeting for any parents that could not make the other meetings. At this rehearsal we will be getting all members a place in the ensemble and we will get to work learning how to play or improve our abilities on the instrument. We are super excited about this opportunity this year and look forward to having a great time!!!
